The Outreach Collection is DCPL's collection of large print books. The Outreach Collection is currently housed on the ground floor of the Decatur Library, and cannot be visited by the public. However, any large print book in the collection can be requested from any branch using the Holds procedure.

Services

Large print books.
Large print books have larger than normal type so they can be more easily read by the elderly or vision impaired. DCPL purchases most of the English-language books published in large print format. The collection is mostly fiction, but also includes popular non-fiction titles.
All branches have deposits of large print books. These deposits rotate every three months so avid large print readers can have a new selection of titles to choose from. All large print titles appear in the online catalog and are available via Holds.
Mailbox books.
Mailbox books service is provided free of charge to residents of DeKalb County who are unable to visit branch libraries due to physical or visual disabilities. Patrons requesting this service must submit an application certifying that they are physically or visually disabled and describing their reading interests. To request an application, call the Outreach Department.
Books are selected from the Outreach collection, or by special request from branch collections. Maibox books circulate for three weeks just like regular books. The Post Office does not charge postage for the delivery or return of Mailbox books.
Deposit Collections.
The Outreach Department also provides library service for those citizens in DeKalb County who are unable to visit libraries by maintaining deposit collectoins in nonprofit nursing homes, rehabilition centers, senior centers, and other locations.
Deposits consist of a prescribed number of large print books which are changed every three months. Each site much have a secured location for housing the books, a system for check-out and return of the materials, and a person responsible for the collection.
Sites interested in applying for a deposit collection should call 404-370-3070, ext 5.
