James McBride is an author, musician and screenwriter. His landmark memoir, The Color of Water, rested on the New York Times bestseller list for two years. It is considered an American classic and is read in schools and universities across the United States. He is also the author of the novels Miracle At St. Anna, Red Hook Summer and Song Yet Sung. His latest novel, Good Lord Bird, about American revolutionary John Brown, was recently long-listed for the 2013 National Book Award.

An accomplished saxophonist, McBride and his band will present a musical performance inspired by The Good Lord Bird and the many folk songs and legends about John Brown.
