Past projects include:

  • Co-sponsor of the Authors' Reception at the annual meeting of the Georgia Library Association/Council of Media Organizations in Macon, Georgia in October 1998 and at Jekyll Island October 1999.
  • Congressman John Lewis speaking on his book, Walking With the Wind, a joint program with the DeKalb Historical Society, February 1999 in Decatur, Georgia.
  • The Georgia Center for the Book, with Georgia Writers, Inc. and the Georgia Poetry Society celebrated National Poetry Month Saturday, April 1, 2000 with a poetry reading on the steps of the Capitol in Atlanta.
  • The first Stanley W. Lindberg Award was presented to author Pat Conroy Saturday, April 24, 1999 at the Georgia Center for Continuing education at the University of Georgia in Athens. Marion H. Montgomery was the second Lindberg Award recipient February 24, 2001 in ceremonies at the State Botanical Garden in Athens. The Award honors longtime editor of the Georgia Review, Stan Lindberg, who died in January 2000.
  • Statewide coordinator for Storylines America, a 13-part book-based radio discussion series on Peach State Public Radio October 3 - December 26, 1999.
  • Creator of Georgia Book Month, a statewide celebration of Georgia writers held every November. Governor Roy Barnes declared November as Georgia Book Month November 3, 1999 in a ceremony at the state Capitol.
  • State co-sponsor with the Georgia Association of Educators of Read Across America, March 2, 2000.
  • Co-sponsor of the world premiere of a three-part documentary history of Southern literature (1915-present) on Saturday, February 26, 2000 at Georgia State University's Rialto Theater. Tell About the South: Voices in Black and White was written, directed and produced by acclaimed documentary film-maker Ross Spears.
  • All Georgia Reading the Same Book campaign in 2002 promoted Janisse Ray's Ecology of a Cracker Childhood. You can read more about the campaign, the essay contest winners and Dr. Tom McHaney's speech at the kickoff of the campaign.
