Friends of the Library

Friends of the Library groups are composed of volunteers who support their local library branches. Membership is open to all. The mission of the Friends of the Library is to promote interest in, use of, and public support for the DeKalb County Public Library. Friends volunteer their time and resources to help provide high quality library services, books, and materials for their community libraries.

National Friends of Libraries Week

During National Friends of Libraries Week October 21 - 27, the Friends of DCPL Libraries are holding programs and book sales. You can support your local Friends of the Library group by purchasing a paper cutout leaf for $1. Leaves are available at the following branches: Brookhaven, Covington, Chamblee, Clarkston, Dunwoody, Embry Hills, Hairston Crossing, Lithonia-Davidson, Redan-Trotti, Salem-Panola, Toco Hill-Avis G. Williams, Tucker-Reid H. Cofer and Wesley Chapel-William C. Brown. Join the Friends by becoming a member and help support the library. (See membership information below)

Why Join?

Becoming a Friend unites you with other supporters and lovers of your library. A Friends group gives a stronger voice in promoting the work and ongoing vitality of each branch. What We Do

Friends raise money through dues and book sales to fund many important services at their local library branches such as: Books and other materials for collection development

  • Support for vacation reading program
  • Teen book club
  • Sponsor children’s performers and programs
  • Cultural programs
  • Library equipment and facility improvements

Get Involved

Becoming a Friend offers everyone an opportunity to give back to the library, which gives so much to your community. To help, you can volunteer your time, donate gently-used books and join your local Friends group. You may volunteer as much or as little as you want. Volunteer opportunities include planning programs, helping at book sales, special events, and library projects. The Alliance of the Friends of the DeKalb County Public Library, Inc. formed a group nonprofit organization in November 2010 composed of 15 individual branch Friends groups. Its mission is to support, benefit and assist Friends of the Library groups of the DeKalb County Public Library. The Alliance applied for 501(c)3 nonprofit status in May 2011. The Alliance works together with Friends to better our libraries.
