Online Resources

  • Rosetta Stone: Teaches English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Russian, and Spanish using both audio and visual. Headphones are needed, and microphones can be used to help with pronunciation.
  • Tell Me More : Teaches English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, and Spanish using audio and visual aids. Tell Me More offers more in depth instruction than Rosetta Stone , headphones and a microphone are also useful.
  • LearningExpressLibrary : Has practice tests for exams such as: GED, SAT, TOEFL, Nursing, Civil Service, and many more.

These programs can be used at any branch, or from your home computer using your Library card and PIN.

Learning Computers

In addition to the Learning Collection, the Library has access to instructional software. There are a total of eight computers at the Decatur, Clarkston, and Chamblee branches that have educational software.

Some of the programs that can be found include programs related to workplace skills: Math for Everyday Living and Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing; interactive ESL programs: The Rosetta Stone Classic; and adult basic education: Vocabulary Connections. The programs vary from branch to branch. Please call or visit the branch nearest you to ask about what programs are on their learning computers.

Audiovisual Equipment

The following branches have audiovisual equipment that patrons may use to view or listen to educational videos and audiocassettes from the Learning Collection:

  • Clarkston: Two viewing stations and a cassette player
  • Decatur: TV/VCR and a cassette player with multiple headphones for student-tutor or small class groups.

The computers and audiovisual equipment can be used any time the libraries are open.  Staff can assist with the computers and the audiovisual equipment.
