You'll work with creative and innovative colleagues and serve a large and diverse population. Among other duties, our librarians manage branches, large and small, are challenged to keep abreast of the latest information technologies and trends in materials collection and work with their communities to encourage literacy and a love of books, Our library specialists and technicians serve patrons on the front lines, organize and track their branch's collection, design appealing book displays, assist with children's programs and more. The DeKalb Library SystemDeKalb County Public Library, a 2005 winner of a Georgia Humanities Award, is a 22-branch system located in the metropolitan Atlanta area. The system serves the nearly 700,000 people of DeKalb County, Georgia's second largest and most culturally diverse county. We offer patrons materials in seven languages, state of the art electronic resources, special services for seniors and the disabled and a full-range of literacy services. Our community outreach programs include Library Take-Out, a traveling module that takes books and other resources in Spanish, Chinese and Vietnamese into immigrant communities, and Project Horizon, which offers books and other library resources free of charge to children in homeless shelters. As host for the Georgia Center for the Book, a state affiliate of the Library of Congress' Center for the Book, DeKalb County Public Library has become a major arena for literary programming, featuring dozens of distinguished authors each year. The Library also does extensive programming for children and teens, including "Building Blocks," an award-winning program especially designed by the Library for infants and their parents to encourage the development of the language and motor skills of our youngest patrons. About the County-DeKalb County offers the best of the new south-thriving urban enclaves and small towns, Fortune 500 companies and Class-A colleges and universities, a rich and interesting history and loads of charm. It has an international population, with over 155 different nations and more than 130 languages represented in its borders. The world's largest indoor farmer's market is located in DeKalb County. Stone Mountain, with the world's largest relief carving, is here. So are such interesting attractions as the Fernbank Museum of Natural History and Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. DeKalb is also home to great antique shops, fabulous restaurants, theaters, museums, parks and shopping centers. Professional Growth and DevelopmentDeKalb County Public Library believes its employees are its most valuable resource and encourages their professional growth and development. The Library offers a number of programs and incentives:
Continuous staff training and development opportunities are available to all library employees, including in-house and county programs and local, state, and national workshops and conferences. Library employees also are encouraged to participate in local, state, and national professional organizations to exchange information and represent the library. Financial assistance is provided to support participation in professional meetings and conferences. In addition, during an annual Staff Development Day all employees participate in a daylong schedule of professional and personal enrichment programs. The event includes nationally renowned guest speakers and opportunities to network and exchange information and ideas with colleagues from throughout the system. Current OpeningsThe following positions are available with the DeKalb County Human Resources. DeKalb County Government is currently under a Hiring Freeze. Only critically needed positions, authorized by the Chief Executive Officer, will be exempted from this freeze.
