The DeKalb Library System

DeKalb County Public Library, a 2005 winner of a Georgia Humanities Award, is a 22-branch system located in the metropolitan Atlanta area. The system serves the nearly 700,000 people of DeKalb County, Georgia's second largest and most culturally diverse county. We offer patrons materials in seven languages, state of the art electronic resources, special services for seniors and the disabled and a full-range of literacy services. Our community outreach programs include Library Take-Out, a traveling module that takes books and other resources in Spanish, Chinese and Vietnamese into immigrant communities, and Project Horizon, which offers books and other library resources free of charge to children in homeless shelters. As host for the Georgia Center for the Book, a state affiliate of the Library of Congress' Center for the Book, DeKalb County Public Library has become a major arena for literary programming, featuring dozens of distinguished authors each year. The Library also does extensive programming for children and teens, including "Building Blocks," an award-winning program especially designed by the Library for infants and their parents to encourage the development of the language and motor skills of our youngest patrons.

About the County-DeKalb County offers the best of the new south-thriving urban enclaves and small towns, Fortune 500 companies and Class-A colleges and universities, a rich and interesting history and loads of charm. It has an international population, with over 155 different nations and more than 130 languages represented in its borders. The world's largest indoor farmer's market is located in DeKalb County. Stone Mountain, with the world's largest relief carving, is here. So are such interesting attractions as the Fernbank Museum of Natural History and Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. DeKalb is also home to great antique shops, fabulous restaurants, theaters, museums, parks and shopping centers.
