Scottdale-Tobie Grant Library Branch Celebrates 50 Years of Service Print E-mail

Back in the early 1960s, the people of the Scottdale community were given the choice of a swimming pool or library on land that had been donated for a community center and park by Scottdale resident Tobie Grant. The people chose a library and the Tobie Grant Branch Library opened as part of the community center on Sunday, June 24, 1962. The celebration included a dedication and the unveiling of a portrait of Mrs. Tobie Grant, which was hung in the library.

Today, Mrs. Grant’s portrait still hangs in the branch, which became a homework center in 1982. Because most of its patrons were children by the 1980s, the facility was renovated and its focus changed to serve patrons six to 18 years old as the Scottdale-Tobie Grant Homework Center.
